Battle of the Books (BOB) Club

Battle of the Books (BOB) is a reading incentive program that encourages our learners to enjoy reading, book discussion, and analysis. All 4th and 5th grade students are invited to participate in our club and try out for our competitive team.
Battle of the Books Competition
In the spring of 2023, MVCS will compete in the Battle of the Books Competition against other south county schools. Each school will be allowed to bring up to two teams of six participants consisting of 4th and 5th graders. All questions asked are from a selected list of twenty books. All questions begin with “In which book….?” and the answer is always the title and the author of the book. The winning team earns a trophy for their school.

BOB Club Membership
MVCS 4th and 5th graders who wish to participate in the BOB Club must read as many of the selected 20 books on the list as possible by the designated dates (see the "Bob Books with Pictures by Month" below), complete book notes, and attend the book club meetings. In January, team(s) will be selected, according to attendance at book club meetings, coaches’ evaluations, and a written test. The non-team club members can still attend book club meetings, help coach the team as a study buddy, and cheer on our school at the tournament. We will hold an in-house BOB competition that will emulate the inter-school Battle of the Books Tournament. At this point, each child on the team will specialize in four of the books.

To participate in the 2022-2023 Battle of the Books Club, completed BOB Applications should be turned in to Mrs. Vivanco by September 2, 2022. (See the link below for the application included in the "BOB Guidelines and Application.")
