Fine Arts Department

The Fine Arts Department at MVCS exists to develop students' God-given artistic and creative talents and to give them opportunities to glorify Him through their endeavors. We recognize that helping students hone their creative abilities will provide them with the skills they need to have greater success in high school, college, and beyond. Utilizing their visual and musical artistic backgrounds will allow them to stand out as they bring innovative ideas to the world around them.

Art Class:

  • Art classes help students explore the elements of art through images, videos, lectures, and projects where they learn to draw, paint, and make 3D sculptures.

  • Grades K-5 elementary art classes are 60 minutes every other week. 6th grade meets every week for 60 minutes.

  • Junior high (Grades 7-8) students can select Photography or Mixed Media Art as electives. Elective classes meet twice weekly for approximately 1 hour each session.

Performing Arts:

Kindergarten - 4th Grade Music:
  • Grades K-4 participate in weekly music classes with a dedicated music teacher. They learn about composers, instruments that make up the orchestra, songwriting, and movement as it relates to rhythm. Our emphasis for every student is on music (instrumentation, appreciation, and theory), singing, movement, and performance.

5th & 6th Grade Music:
  • Grades 5-6 choose one area of music in which they will participate between band, strings, and choir. Each area of performance will include reading music, personal development of instrument/voice, and corporate performances as benchmarks to display their accomplishments.

Junior High Music:
  • Grades 7-8 can choose a performing arts elective (choir, instruments, band, etc.) which meets Tuesdays and Thursdays during the school day. They may choose from classes like guitar, tech, choir, band, and a variety of others. Elective classes meet twice weekly for approximately 1 hour each session.

Theater Arts:
  • Each year, the MVCS Fine Arts Department offers after-school extra-curricular activities for students interested in developing theater skills. These include the Fall Musical, Christmas productions, and the Spring Musical.

MVCS Worship:
  • Grades 5-8 have the opportunity to participate in our student-led worship team, MVCS Worship. This program is intended to teach students to grow in skill in their instrument, in their understanding of worship through music, and in love for Jesus and His Presence.

  • We have vocals, acoustic and electric guitar, bass, drums, synth, keys, and even a few violin players. Utilizing in-ear monitors, click and track, and sound tech training for our students, we are thrilled to train up this generation of musicians who play and worship with excellence. This group meets once weekly for practice, leading worship for our weekly chapel. This includes worship band and movement worship for our younger grades (K-2) several times monthly.

Additional After-School Enrichment Classes:
  • In addition to offering opportunities to play on various after-school sports teams and participate in musical theater productions, MVCS gives opportunities to students with a variety of other interests. Students may choose to further their artistic development through dance classes, art classes, music competitions, and music lessons.

Multi-week after-school enrichment sessions are offered throughout the year for the following classes:

    • Art Club (Grades 1-6)
    • Dance (Grades 1-3)
